– Everything costs money, even calling your bank.
– The intermezzo's at cinemas seem weird unill you realize that it's just another way of making money.
– People have very little self-criticism (whereas the Danes have too much).
– People are internationaly minded.
– People are not so afraid for new things, most people realise that change is necessary for survival.
– A backyard or a park is concieved as 'nature'.
– People often reply to me in German, French or English, even when I (attempt to) speak to them in Dutch.
– The Netherlands has trams, Denmark hasn’t.
– People are more different (although, men often have curly hair and wear polo-shirts).
– In airplanes, Dutch people get up as soon as the 'unsafe seatbelt' sign has been switched on - although it ususally takes 10-15 minutes before the doors open.
– Schipphol airport is big and has a casino.
– People love to think of themselves as tolerant but infact, they are mostly afraid of saying 'no' or taking a firm stand towards something.
– Most rules can be interpretated in several ways.
– Art, design and architecture are integrated parts of everyday life and are not just 'elitaire' cultural elements.
– Local films are bad.
– People often feel superior to other countries, especially towards Germany and Belgium.
– There are lots of art/design festivals conferences, seminars and events. (This is infact the main difference that makes me live in the Netherlands and not Denmark.)
– The Netherlands is extremely international minded.
– Everything is subsidised.
– People don't worry.
– Bakeries are closed on sundays.
– My favourite bar closes at 1.
– Girls are not very elegant or feminine but it is compensated by the foreign girls.
– The food culture is terrible but it is compensated by the foreign cuisines.
– People are not very hygenic.
– Cafés are terrible. (brown and boring).
– Things are generally not focused on style or quality but on functionality (food, coffee, beer, clothes, houses, bikes, cafes, etc.)
– People seem pragmatic.
– People are very loud.
– Women have deep voices.
– People like being rude. Next to 'tolerant', 'rude' is something that the the Dutch feel proud of.
– The best beer is from belgium.
– Tab-beer always comes with 30% foam and sticky glasses.
– Chocoloate-culture is very good.
– There are mice everywhere.
– You can't get a real hotdog.
– Sometimes, people seem to be living in the 80's.
– Trains are in two levels.
– There are more flowers.
– There is more cheese.
– There are more highways.
– There are more people.
– There is more life.
