2nd hand bikes here cost more than the basic made-in-taiwan mountain bikes in SG (90-130 euros) and new bikes (good ones, for touring not racing) cost 300euros at least.
Everything regarding bikes (parts, tyres...workmanship) cost at least 2wice more.
Fried food is the national dish, followed by mash potatoes and sausages, compared to a smorgasbord of fusion food 24 hours a day.
Thank God for Kam Poh (the best/reasonably priced Chinese restaurant in Eindhoven)
One of their ideas of asian food is fries with satay peanut sauce (which tastes like salted peanut butter).
The Dutch are really being themselves when the guys start wearing orange-coloured milkmaid's dress during festivities, or Goths/punks/Leather biker on normal days, in the tram sitting beside you. I love how people just accept individuality.
They are straightfoward. No bullshit 99% of the time,
They have a lot of patience. I've learnt how to chill when the shopkeeper starts chatting to the paying customer in front of me, and wait for my turn. All without rolling my eyes and giving dirty looks.
That the national language (er...Dutch) beats Singlish hand down in terms of humor and weird-sounding-ness.
That the Dutch are truly Freeky-Dicky (to quote from the Austin Powers movie) and we love them for it.
